We understand that it is important for teachers to experience what their students experience when they log in to complete assignments and review their progress. This article will walk you through how to set up a class in the Clear Learning Center with you as a student.
One way to immerse yourself in the student experience is to add yourself, the instructor, as a student to a class. Using a sample class lets you explore activities from the student perspective without impacting your real class’s data.
Let’s walk through manually setting up a class in the Clear Learning Center. Then, we’ll add you, the instructor, as a student to the class and show you how to log in as a student.
To add a class in Clear Learning Center:
You’ll be prompted to select your subject.
On the next screen you will add the name of your class, adjust start and end dates. If you have instructor access, you will automatically be assigned as the teacher of record for the class you are adding. For those with supervisor access, you will need to select the instructor or instructors for your course. To add a co-teacher for your class, expand the dropdown menu for instructors. Then, select the teacher you would like to add as a co-teacher.
Now, select a primary course and standards.
Click Next when you’re finished.
On the next screen, content with a blue checkmark will be viewable and assignable in the Course Navigator.
Click Next when you’re finished.
We’re now ready to add students to your class. For the purpose of this class we will only be adding you, the instructor, as a student. If you have a co-teacher, you may also want to consider adding them as a student.
Click inside the search bar to view students available in your school.
Click inside the box next to Include Instructors. Notice the number of available students increases once you’ve checked Include Instructors.
Now begin typing your last name in the search bar or scroll through the list of students to locate your name and click the + on the right to add yourself to the class. You’ll know you’ve selected your name when you see the + turn into a checkmark.
Once you’ve selected all the instructors you would like to add, click Next.
The next screen will display a summary of the class you just created. If everything looks correct, click Done. You’ll now be returned to the portal and see a notification that your class was created.
Now that you’ve added yourself as a student, let’s get you logged in as a student!
Return to the portal without logging out by clicking on the portal button in the upper left corner of your screen.
Once back in the portal, look for the class tile that says Student. Click to open the card. This is where you’ll access your student account for the class. Any assignments that you give as an instructor will appear here.
