Import Roster to World Language Class with File Upload

Add Student Roster by File Import

When setting up a new course, you can easily import your student roster by uploading a CSV file containing your students’ information.

  1. Begin by selecting Add Roster by File Import when you get to the Adding Students screen. Then, click Next.

  2. Click Download CSV Template on the next screen and access the file from your browser downloads.

  3. The template will be a blank spreadsheet with headers for student names, usernames, email addresses, and student numbers. Many gradebook systems allow you to download a CSV or Excel file of this information that you can simply copy and paste into the template. The first name, last name, and username columns are required, whereas email addresses and student numbers are optional. The username imported here is what students will use to log in. You can choose to fill the username column with student emails or numbers if that is what you prefer students to use.

  4. After you fill in the template, be sure to “Save As” a CSV file. Return to the screen where you downloaded the template and click Upload Your File (CSV). Then, click Import.

  5. The next screen will allow you to review your student roster. If it is accurate and complete, scroll down and click Import. Finally, click Next and then Done to complete your class setup.

Add Students to Existing Roster by File Import

If you have an existing class with students, and you would like to add more students using the file import tool, click the gear icon at the top of your class’s dashboard. Then, click the pencil in the top right corner of the student roster on the right half of the screen.

Scroll to the bottom of your student roster and click Upload File. Follow the same steps as above to upload your roster using the CSV file template.
