Getting Started with Schoology LTI & Carnegie Learning

First Time Class Setup

1. When viewing your Schoology section, you should see a “Carnegie Learning” app in your course options on the left side of the screen. Open that app to complete your initial class setup.

2. First, you will be prompted to select your Subject.

3. Next, select your “Primary Course”, which will determine the grade-level content for that Subject. You can also select “Additional Content” if you’d like to pull content from other grade-levels.

For example, in the Math class pictured below, I’ve selected Algebra I as my Primary Course, and Middle School Course 3 as Additional Content that I can assign from.

4. Lastly, hit “Next” to confirm your selections on the page pictured below.

1. Now that our class setup is completed, we can go back to Schoology. There are 2 ways for teachers to access their course materials from their Schoology class.

The first way is to launch the “Carnegie Learning” app from the left-side menu, which will open a View-Only Course Tree for teachers to preview/project materials.

2. For guidance on using the Course Navigator menu, please see these articles from our Help Center:

WL - Navigating Course Materials

1. Since the Course Navigator outlined above is View-Only, we will assign lessons/assignments to students via “Add Materials” in your Schoology “Materials” tab.

When viewing the “Add Materials” dropdown menu, select “Carnegie Learning.”

2. This will open the same Course Navigator as before, but now with the option to “Select” each assignment. Hit “Select” to assign to your Schoology class.

3. Once you use Select to assign, you’ll be returned to your Schoology Materials tab, where the assignment is now linked for the class.

4. To Edit the Graded/Ungraded status of the assignment, how many Points it’s worth, or other Schoology assignment settings, open “Edit” for that assignment.

5. If the Assignment is set to be Graded, it will also appear automatically in your Schoology gradebook.

Reviewing/Evaluating Student Work

Once a student completes an assignment:

1. On the Materials tab, open the Assignment link that you want to evaluate.

2. This will default to a “Previewing” view. To switch to reviewing student work, click on the green “Previewing” box, then select the purple “Switch to Review Mode”.

3. In Review mode, the class’s students and their grading status will appear on the right. Select a student’s name to view their submission and enter grading mode.

4. In Grading mode, view the student’s work on the left, provide a score/feedback, and set the assignment status on the right.

5. When done, select “Submit Review” to finalize your evaluation. Lastly, use the back arrow next to the student’s name to return to the student list and continue evaluating, or close the window to return to Schoology.
