Try Again and Reveal Answers for Auto-Evaluated Practice Activities
Your world language program allows students to “try again” up to three times on auto-evaluated practice activities. This offers students the opportunity to practice their language skills and work toward proficiency by learning from their mistakes and refining their responses.
What kinds of activities allow students to “try again”?
Students have the ability to retry computer-graded practice activities up to three times before submitting for a grade. Some examples of these types of activities include multiple choice listening activities, drop-down student edition activities, and matching activities from the workbook. This function is not available on assessments or teacher-graded activities.
How does it work for students?
First try:
Students input their responses. Then, they can use the Check Answers button to check if their responses were correct or incorrect. It is recommended that students take note of which responses they would like to adjust for their next try.
Second try:
When the student clicks Try Again, the responses from their first try are erased and they can now input their revised responses.
Third try:
When students click Check Answers on their third try, they will see the answer key. Students will not be able to make any further revisions to their answers.
Finally, the student should click Done to submit the activity. The activity status will remain “in progress” until the student submits it for a final score using the Done button.
Note: Students are not required to “try again” three times. They can click Done at any time to submit their final answers. However, students will only see the answer key if they complete all three tries.
What do teachers see?
You are able to see the final results of the submitted activity (i.e., the score when the student clicked Done). You will not see the results of each practice try.
To allow students another round of practice with the activity, you can reassign the activity. Each re-assignment counts as a new attempt. You can see the final score for each attempt on the Assignments page.
How can I use this for instruction?
Teachers are also able to use the Try Again and Check Answers functions when previewing an assignable auto-evaluated activity.
Display the activity to work through as a class, then use Check Answers for students to verify their responses.
Use these functions to view the answer key before assigning an activity to identify where students might need support or direction on how to respond.
When grading student work on paper, you can use this function to quickly view the answer key. Note: Answer keys are also available in the teacher’s editions of your textbook and ancillary materials.
